Urine analyzer LAURA
Last update: 04.09.2026, 00:01:10

The LAURA® system for objective urine sample evaluation provides an efficient solution for ensuring high-quality, standardised analysis results. The LAURA® analyser is a reflectance photometer for semi-quantitative urine analysis using PHAN® LAURA diagnostic test strips. This high-performance semi-automated reader offers easy operation via a touchscreen display and external connectivity options.
LAURA® SYSTEM
The system uses several types of diagnostic test strips, which differ in the number of parameters measured:
| Cat. number | Product | LEU | NIT | pH | PRO | GLU | UBG | BIL | KET | BLD | SG | CP | CRE | MA |
| URPH0029 | MicroAlbuPHAN LAURA | • | • | • | ||||||||||
| URPH0028 | DekaPHAN LAURA | • | • | • | • | • | • | • | • | • | • | • |
* The albumin/creatinine ratio is automatically calculated for each analysed sample.
Parameters that can be determined using the diagnostic test strips include: specific gravity (SG), leukocytes (LEU), nitrite (NIT), pH, protein (PRO), glucose (GLU), ketones (KET), urobilinogen (UBG), bilirubin (BIL), blood (BLD), microalbumin (MA) and creatinine (CRE).
The LAURA® analyser automatically identifies the inserted test strip type. The compensation pad (CP) on the diagnostic test strip eliminates the effect of varying urine sample colour, thereby improving measurement quality.
Samples can be entered manually or via a barcode reader. The analyser supports sample entry by patient identification number, through the automatic sequence of inserted samples, or by creating a worklist. Results can be printed directly using the integrated thermal printer.
The LAURA® analyser performs an automatic self-check after each start-up. Proper functioning of the optical components is verified using grey control strips supplied with the analyser. Quality control of the complete diagnostic test strip–LAURA® system is performed using URINORM control urines. The analyser also supports QC timer and QC lock settings.
The LAURA® reader features an extensive software menu that allows individual configuration, from user accounts and sample entry options to the selection of units and the order of individual parameters. Before measurement, users can add a comment or further sample specification, such as colour or turbidity, which is stored in the database together with the analysis result.
The LAURA® analyser is equipped with standard interfaces for connecting a keyboard, mouse, barcode reader or external printer. Connection to a Laboratory Information System (LIS) is also available.
The LAURA® system includes a dedicated instrument maintenance mode. The strip cleaning function simplifies cleaning and disinfection of the analyser. Hygienic operation is further supported by a waste container for used test strips, which can accommodate a disposable liner. The user is automatically notified when the waste container needs to be emptied.
